Terry Pratchett’s final novel coming this September

This September Penguin Random House will be publishing The Shepherd’s Crown, the final Discworld novel by Sir Terry Pratchett. Editor Kirsten Armstrong bought Exclusive World All Language rights (excluding US, US dependencies and Philippines) from Colin Smythe of Colin Smythe Ltd.

The Shepherd’s Crown is the fifth Discworld novel featuring young witch Tiffany Aching. Previous titles in the Tiffany Aching sequence include: The Wee Free Men, A Hat Full of Sky, Wintersmith and I Shall Wear Midnight.

Terry completed THE SHEPHERD’S CROWN in the summer of 2014. It will be published in hardback, ebook and audio formats on September 10th 2015, and is now available for preorder. A collector’s edition will also be available.

I found the Tiffany Aching novels among the best of Pratchett’s later books so I am very excited to see what is in store for her.

  1. Ah, one of those “just been announced” announcements where they announce what they already announced ages ago, but that didn’t count because then they were just saying it but now they’re honestly Announcing it, so everyone should totally give them more press coverage…

    Seriously, the fact that the next book would be a Tiffany Aching novel and would probably be published in autumn 2015 has been known since iirc July last year, when Pratchett announced it. The fact that it was called ‘The Shepherd’s Crown’, and the fact that it was completed and had been handed in six months ago and would certainly be published in autumn 2015 has been known since at least the day after his death, when his publishers announced it. This seems to be exactly the same announcement as last month, except that this time they have a pretend cover. And this time they clarify that they don’t have rights to publish in the Phillipines, which I guess may be an important clarification for some people…

    1. Confirming a release date would be of interest to fans and booksellers, surely?

      I’ll be really interested to read it – I thought the ending of Midnight was perfect for the Tiffany series.

      1. OK, maybe I was a bit grumpy. It’s just that this is presented as “we’re publishing a new Pratchett novel!”, when all it’s really saying is “you know that new Pratchett novel we just told you we’d be publishing in september? It’ll probably be september the tenth, we’re currently thinking, just so you know”.
